Emergent Alliance

Revealing a clearer tomorrow

When? Where? How? What? The fundamental questions faced by organisations seeking paths towards post-Covid recovery. The Emergent Alliance – a diverse collaboration of 54 corporates and 335 volunteers – was quickly established at the start of the pandemic to harness the power of data, and give governments and businesses the clarity needed for confident decision-making.

Our team is proud to have played a small part in this ambitious effort. Our role was to frame the alliance’s purpose and capabilities in a way that would resonate with those it sought to help.

The challenge

Within a month of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Emergent Alliance was formed as an independent, not-for-profit planning resource to help find answers to a new set of urgent and complex problems.

This group of disparate organisations – including Rolls-Royce, IBM, Microsoft and Google Cloud – quickly came together to apply their data analytics capability to positively contribute to post-Covid recovery. Never before had such a wide range of data sets been combined from which to draw valuable insights.

This noble initiative was created at breakneck speed, with new products and services developed at an unprecedented pace. But these tools could only deliver value if they were known to, and used by, the governments and businesses that needed them. Clear and effective communication of these solutions was therefore critical.

The work

Chapter One was asked to provide a sharper focus to the external Emergent Alliance story. Our team was able to contribute by framing the alliance’s purpose and capabilities in a way that would resonate with leaders of organisations facing complex problems about our new future.

Our work involved the rapid development of messaging and content for the Emergent Alliance website and social channels, including the production of an introductory video.

The impact

The work of the Emergent Alliance gave governments and businesses the tools, clarity and confidence to find the best routes out of the Covid pandemic and towards societal and economic recovery.

The Emergent Alliance story also shows that, in times of great need, it is possible for otherwise competing companies to mobilise, share and collaborate in order to meet the world’s most pressing challenges.
